Day 8- Harewood House

Sorry I'm so behind on my blog, I'll do my best to catch up but I may not, I'm going to Paris this weekend and probably won't take my laptop. My second trip down memory lane was to Harewood House outside of Leeds, another of my previous trips. Good news, I got plenty of sleep that night thanks to the new eye mask and earplugs! I bought the same breakfast as last year again, a tomato and cheese croissant which was much tastier than the ham and cheese from the day before. I then started on my way towards Leeds where I would catch the bus to Harewood. Be prepared, this post has a lot of photos and pictures of flowers, don't say you weren't warned.

After arriving in Leeds I quickly shuffled off to the bus station so I could catch my bus. As I headed up to the estate's entry arch, I began to regret not wearing my extra coat; the wind was awful! I sat in the little golf cart taxi area for a few minutes before deciding the golf cart taxi wasn't coming. The walk to the house was a windy one but it wasn't as long as it looked on the map, thank goodness! I  got to the ticket gate a very attractive British boy sold me my ticket, so far the day was going swell!

I started my tour of the estate with the All Saints chapel. The chapel had a lot of crypts and a pretty cemetery off to the side. I have included a photo giving some more information of the chapel because I don't have time to write it all out, sorry.
After seeing the chapel, I headed across the large field toward the house. As I made my way to the center of the field to take some photos, I saw something fast in the corner of my eye... It was a bunny!

I then made my way into the house as it had started to drizzle slightly. The house was as beautiful as I remembered! Be prepared, you're about to see a lot of ceilings! In the long room, there was a large number of paintings, some of which were by artists I had learned about in my art history class last semester!
Fancy bathroom mirror selfie!

My favorite room in the house!
Allegory by El Greco
Madonna and Child with Donor by Giovanni Bellini
An Admiral by Jacobo Tintoretto
Impressive stuff huh? I am just surprised a place this fancy would allow photos at all! Next I headed around to the back of the house where they have a restaurant, and by that time I was famished. I got myself a pot of earl grey tea because I definitely needed something to warm me up. I ordered a fancy chicken salad sandwich that came with a small salad, however, it was odd that they put the napkin under the food, that didn't help me much when I needed it. After my tasty sandwich I ordered a slice of Victoria sponge cake, I happened to be seated facing a revolving cake display, it was too tempting. The cake came with a side of fresh cream that looked like ice cream, so when I took a bite it was a bit surprising, but very yummy. After my meal I headed out to the gardens.

Where's Pascal? 2: Pascal is enjoying a sunny moment on a cloudy day at Harewood House, Pascal doesn't like nude sculptures
Where's Pascal? 3: Pascal didn't get a chance to take a photo at Hill Top, he's making it up to you by taking an extra photo here

More fun with the zoom!
I then made my way from the formal gardens I headed to the gift shop and grabbed some goodies. The gift shop happened to be playing a selection of film music including the Superman theme and the Transformers theme, they must've known I was coming and that I love movie music. The next stop was the Himalayan garden and the area around the lake. On one side of the lake is a walled garden where they grow different veggies and such, including asparagus, my favorite! There was also a 'fairy tree' which took me two walk-bys to find since the little windows and door were so tiny. It was very relaxing, especially when the sun started to come out. One of my favorite things about the UK is the amazing color of the flowers, especially the azaleas! They come in pinks, reds, purples, yellows and oranges!
Yellow azaleas with streaks of orange
White and purple mixed azaleas
All colored azaleas!
They're like sitting ducks...

Once I had finished relaxing, I headed back to the front of the house to head back to Leeds. It was sad leaving but I felt like I had see all I wanted to see. I got the golf cart back to Leeds where I had intended to spend some time there shopping then go to dinner, but it was to early to eat and everything was closing so I caught an early train back to Manchester, hopefully to try to beat the crowed of people who went to the Manchester United game that afternoon. I grabbed some triple chocolate cookies at the store and then got some chicken nuggets at Burger King because I was feeling lazy. I then headed back to my hostel and the day was done.
