Day 3 (Metro Map)

Today was the first day of classes, yay! I started my day a bit early and had a bit of my baguette and a bowl of what I think is store brand Special K with chocolate. It was surprisingly delicious! They have very nice chocolate shavings in it rather than chunks and the ratio of chocolate to flakes was a consistent 1:1. After breakfast I headed to my first class.

My French teacher, Anna, is really nice and tries to speak as much French as possible which definitely helps the learning process. We went over the basics: what's your name, where are you from, ect. Then we got an hour for lunch and I had a meat and cheese platter I made myself of salami, ham, Gouda, and the rest of my baguette from yesterday. Somehow I think this blog may turn into a food blog, but it's hard not to when Lyon is the food capital of the world! After lunch I headed to my business class with Dr. Kiley. It was pretty fun and we did a few group projects, but the room we were in was sweltering! The class lasts from 1-5 so it was a long time to be in a hot room, and the French commonly don't have air conditioning so the best you can do is open the windows.

After class, Dr. Kiley had us gather so he could take us all to the larger shopping area in Lyon (where the giant Carrefour is) near Montrochet. He also showed us where some museum near the river is that he recommends. We all then went shopping in Carrefour which had much cheaper prices than Monoprix and even had towels for €2! I bought a few towels for my bathroom and my kitchen as well as some plums and peaches. Afterwards, we said 'goodbye' to Dr. Kiley as he left us and we ventured to find dinner. Some students decided to head home, others decided to go to get tacos/burritos at some shop while Harley and I went to McDonald's. We ordered our food from a touchscreen, I got a chicken sandwich with ranch and ketchup as well as ordered a box of 6 macaroons! Yes, McDonald's has macaroons! They were only €0.95 each too! My goal is to try all of the macaroons in Lyon that I can and then decide which is best, so why not start with the assumed worst? It can only get better! On the way home I stopped and bought my train tickets to Paris this weekend so I can catch my flight to Manchester!

A Lyon specialty, some sort of praline, not like American pralines
